Tony Ayling

Author Tony AylingTony Ayling decided to become a marine biologist when he was ten years old. He has followed his dream ever since. He started scuba diving at the age of fourteen and has spent over 10,000 hours observing marine life in its natural habitat. Tony completed his university study in Auckland, New Zealand, where he obtained a doctorate in Marine Biology in 1977. A short time later he married another marine biologist and moved to north Queensland to live and work on the Great Barrier Reef. Since then, he has been lucky enough to dive and study all up and down the reef and has spent over 25 years researching fish, corals and other reef animals and plants. He is especially interested in fish classification and behaviour and has written a book on the sea fish of New Zealand. Dr Tony Ayling lives with his partner and twin daughters in the Daintree Rainforest and still dives regularly all over the Great Barrier Reef.
