Patrick Honan

Author Karin CoxPatrick Honan has had a lifelong fascination with Australian insects and spiders, from collecting Emperor Gum Moth caterpillars at primary school to rearing Hercules Moth caterpillars today. Patrick has contributed to a range of children’s books and has written a number of scientific papers and many articles for magazines and newspapers on natural history and education.

His main interest is conservation and he is leading the project to conserve the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect — one of the world’s most endangered invertebrates. He has travelled Australia photographing nature, and conducted research at Government research institutes and Monash University. Patrick is currently the invertebrate specialist at Melbourne Zoo and resides on the edge of the bush in outer Melbourne.
