New England National Park turns 75 this year and they're celebrating with a photographic competition with more than $5000 in prizes across five categories. Your photo may be selected as one of sixty finalists for a month-long exhibition at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre in September-October 2010.
New England National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, located 75 km east of Armidale, is one of New South Wales' great national parks.
Arising from the vision and dedication of a few influential community representatives, it was first gazetted on the 24 May 1935. The park's dramatic landscapes, ancient rainforests, photogenic wildlife and inspiring bushwalks make great themes for this competition.
The overall winner for the best photo from all categories will receive a pair of Swarovski Optik Binoculars (valued at $1679) from Bintel and Swarovski Optik. Other prizes include a 3-room Coleman Lakeside 7 tent, a Berghaus backpack from Armidale Outdoors, a framed canvas photo print of your choice from Ozprintshop, and a whale watch tour with Spirit of Coffs Harbour.
All sixty finalists will have the opportunity to sell prints of their photographs to the public during the exhibition period by arrangement with the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre.
During the exhibition, visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite image. Both the people's choice award winner and a voter selected at random will win a meal for two at the Canopy Café at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre.
The judging panel includes renowned local photographers Alex Cowley and Tim Aickin, as well as Ranger for the park Mal Dwyer.
