Michael Morcombe

Michael MorcombeMichael Morcombe took his first photograph of a bird when he was in high school. It was a black and white shot of a Grey Fantail on its nest. From that time on, Michael has rarely been out of a bird hide, watching and following birds' calls and behaviour, all in the pursuit of the perfect photo of each species. He soon began to spend time sketching birds as well as photographing them and he published his first large-format calendar of his illustrations in 1965. He is now the author of some forty titles, many of them co-authored by his wife, Irene. His 1990 book Australian Birds in the Wilderness won the 1991 Whitley Award for Best Photography Book. Michael has received many international photography awards and won the 1969 C.J. Dennis award for the best work on an Australian subject.

Michael's association with Steve Parish Publishing has been a long one and he has penned many best-selling titles for Steve Parish Publishing.
